Golconda Diamonds Preference
Golconda diamonds always generate intense bidding at auctions, but prestigious auction houses like Christie's and Sotheby’s give special importance to Golconda diamonds making their debut at auctions.
The Nizams of Hyderabad had a splendid collection of diamonds from the Golconda mines. Many of these pieces remained undocumented or privately owned. It is possible that, some diamonds may have been sold discreetly to collectors during times of financial need or political uncertainty.

If any of these pieces resurface in the market, they would be of tremendous historical and monetary value. In recent years rumors have been heard about two Golconda diamonds. One of these happens to be the Great Mogul Diamond, the piece has not been heard of for decades. Collectors have presumed that this diamond, was cut into smaller pieces – nothing more than a presumption.
The second Golconda diamond being mentioned, happens to be a priceless fancy vivid blue diamond from the Golconda mines that exited, the collection of the Nizams in India and supposedly, made its way to a high value collection in Russia. Collectors have been heard referring to this elusive piece, as the Seraphim Blue Diamond.
The possibility of either of these diamonds entering the auction is pure speculation but, collectors are taking no chances. Every whisper will no doubt be heard loud and clear, as both auctioneers and professional bidders keep a close watch on developments.
Golconda diamonds are legendary! These historic diamonds, mined from the Golconda region in India, were renowned for their exceptional clarity, large size, and Type IIA classification, meaning they were among the purest diamonds in the world. The mines were depleted long ago. Collectors and connoisseurs still seek them for their historical significance and unparalleled quality.
